U.S. Government: A Model for a Software Architecture Group

Jeff,

Nothing to add for now. But just wanted to say that I liked this article, and the others that you have penned in that site. Although, your analogy of the US Government as being a representative model for Enterprise Architecture might be apt, my experience tells me that the EA Models are far more lax than the rigid government structure. Also, the government is a decision maker, whereas I would say that EA would be making recommendations to the business owners to make a decision. The accountability for business failure does not lie with the EA.

Our architecture team spread over different locations congregated together a few days ago and in one exercise tried to make some decisions democratically... ending in chaos! I'm not sure what was the lesson learnt, but I'm still for a collaborative style of working.

Best regards,
Joseph
