Society and Government

Is society blind to see the ever increasing gap between the haves and the have nots? Whilst the silent majority face job cuts, salary freezes/reductions, fuel poverty, energy costs and food, the social elite in a recession enjoy a significant increase in income and power to influence our governance. Where are we as a society if those least able to voice their views feel they have nothing to lose by indiscriminate looting and violence? Why in a recession have bankers received £14b (billion) in bonuses in the last year? Unless this government and indeed their partners in crime on the opposition benches address this fundamental issue nothing will change. I suspect things will only get worse in what is an ever increasing authoritarian state open to extremism. As the saying goes “the people should not be afraid of their government, the government should be afraid of their people”. Until that day a generation will suffer the consequences of capitalist greed and a morally corrupt government.

George Beernard Shaw

Shaw was, said to have been, dining with a woman when he asked her, if, assuming he were to offer her one million pounds, she would go to bed with him. She paused, only for a moment, to reflect that one million pounds was a great deal of money, before agreeing that she would find it difficult to resist.

"Well, would you do it for ten shillings?" was his next approach.
"Certainly not!" she replied, somewhat sharply. "What do you take me for?".
"I thought we had already established that." said Shaw. "Now we're negotiating about the price."
